Banjo Picking Festival Poster

A banjo the size of a hillside leans across this Chapel Hill bill, its long neck cutting the design diagonally while a small picker in a lavender shirt sits on a ridge and plays the normal-sized original. The hills roll away in black, rust and purple under a cream sky. Festival bills rarely get this composed; the May 1996 dates sit quietly in the corner, and the instrument does all the announcing. Dark wood picks up the rust and black of the hills. At 12×18in it holds a hallway or the wall beside a record shelf. It is the natural companion to the Austin country bills — three festivals, three accents, one wall of string music.
