1882 Comet Poster Print

A nineteenth-century comet sighting, from the era when astronomy prints were equal parts science and wonder. The Great Comet of 1882 was bright enough to be seen in daylight at its peak, and the design honours that drama: a wall of deep cobalt blue, two black silhouetted onlookers craning upward — one shading his eyes — and a cream comet raking diagonally across the top with a jagged, flame-like tail. The showbill lettering ('visible to the naked eye throughout the world') is part of the pleasure, so give it sizes where type stays legible, 12×18in and up. Black frames sharpen the silhouettes; dark wood leans antique. Hang it in hallways, studies, or beside maps and other period paper.
